Flex Developer

Flex Developers specialize in developing Rich Internet applications utilizing the Adobe Flex framework.  Flex developers turn functional requirements, visual designs and user experience wireframes into Flex solutions for interactive prototypes and production code.  Although the primary technology of focus is Adobe Flex, a Flex developer may also work with DHTML, Ajax, Laszlo and other Rich Internet Application technologies.  Solutions will be delivered in the enterprise space so Flex developers have strong coding fundamentals and emphasize scalability, performance, test driven architecture, team based collaboration, object orientation, and reusability in their code.  Flex Developers work at the intersection of user experience and technology and have a strong basis in user focused application development.  They design and manage complex data transfer between Flex applications and Java based middleware.

Candidates should be enthusiastic about programming and expect to spend approximately 90% of their time doing hands-on code design and development. Candidates must have IT consulting experience, be team-oriented, possess effective written and verbal communication skills and be willing to travel.

Training is available on an as-needed basis to assist with project demands.

Required Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • At least 5 years experience of enterprise web development participating in the complete product development lifecycle of several successful projects
  • Must be well versed in ActionScript 3.0 and Flex libraries.
  • Must demonstrate a strong programming basis in at least one other major language such as Java, C, C++, Perl, or previous versions of Actionscript.
  • Must possess proven knowledge of Object oriented principles and design patterns.
  • Must be knowledgeable about current RIA technologies, frameworks and tools.

A strong knowledge of the following technologies is a plus:

  • XML/XSLT
  • HTML/XHTML
  • W3C DOM methods and properties
  • CSS, DHTML, JavaScript

UX Lead

Position Overview
The User Experience Lead is responsible for working with clients to develop meaningful interactive experiences.  This role requires strategic thinking, UE team leadership, and acute communication with all members of the project team.  Your past experience with activities and deliverables associated with user centered design allows you to add value to consumer, transactional and corporate web initiatives.  Planning and conducting user, stakeholder and competitive research will drive personas and scenarios that will result in conceptual concepts, annotated wireframes, interactive models, prototypes and functional specifications.  You will be exposed to web 2.0 paradigms and methodologies that will transform linear UE thinking into a multidimensional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor user experience project teams of one to several user experience designers
  • Assist in overall project management, e.g., client communication and estimating resource needs/schedules
  • Work closely with client teams to uncover business needs, develop design strategies, present and defend the design team’s work, and build consensus
  • Participate as a leader within an interdisciplinary team that includes user experience designers, project managers, business strategists, and technical leadership
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct user research, contextual and ethnographic studies, participatory design and usability testing
  • Conceptualize and design user interfaces and information architecture using participatory design
  • Produce personas, scenarios, process flows, annotated wireframes, design prototypes, and functional design specifications for complex transactional web applications and portals
  • Produce scalable taxonomies and metadata tagging for enterprise content management systems

Work closely with development teams to QA development and implementation

  • Assist in business development
  • Assist in evangelization of Roundarch, e.g., publishing thought leadership, presenting at conferences, etc.

Required Experience

  • At least eight years of user experience design experience
  • Strong knowledge of user interface design processes and methodology, particularly as applied to web-based applications
  • Excellent communication and organization skills – must be able to function as a thought leader as well as an individual contributor
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Visio, InDesign, and Dreamweaver
  • Knowledge of capabilities and limitations of web technologies such as CMS, HTML, JavaScript, Flash, and CSS

Strongly Desired Experience:

  • Masters degree in Human-Computer Interaction or a related design or behavioral science discipline
  • Experience with Web 2.0 and rich internet concepts and delivery methodologies

Visual Designer

Responsibilities:

-       Collaborate with team members and clients to translate user needs and business goals into actionable experience design strategies

-       Realize the design strategy through mood and storyboard concepts to establish the visual design approach

-       Work with User Experience Architects and Developers to develop and iterate a visual design that exceeds the goals of the project

-       Leverage the capabilities of Rich Internet Applications and other technologies to create intuitive and elegant user interactions

-       Design new and creative approaches to visualize data and present information that facilitates user understanding (in the Tuftean sense) and is aesthetically beautiful.

-       Present design concepts to clients in a professional and logical manner.  Articulate and support design decisions based on the goals of the project, the established design strategy, and knowledge of design theory.

-       Produce design artifacts for site development

-       Work with UX team members to develop experience style guides, including sustainable and maintainable visual design languages and systems, interaction patterns, and information design standards

Requirements:

-       Current and review-ready portfolio.

-       Extensive experience in creating visual design for Websites and Web applications.  Must demonstrate a talent for and a commitment to design excellence.  Formal design education a plus.

-       Experience in being part of a collaborative design environment and a desire to work as part of a team.  Must have the confidence and maturity to know that great ideas can come from anywhere and anyone.

-       Understanding and experience with user-centered design methodologies and practices, in particular the role of design in creating usable and effective Web interfaces

-       Strong interaction design, motion graphic and cinematic animation skills.  Experience in designing Web 2.0/Rich Internet Applications (utilizing technologies such as Ajax, Flex, Laszlo, etc.) a plus.

-       Strong information design skills with experience in data visualization.  Experience in creating information graphics a plus.

-       Excellent communication and organizational skills.  Ability to present and support creative concepts in a professional and engaging manner.

-       Ability to act as a creative thought leader and demonstrate a passion for the discipline.

-       Must be committed to constantly improving one’s skills and staying current of developments and trends in the industry, as well as sharing this knowledge with others.

-       The ambition to create breakthrough design that is second to none, while having respect for deadlines and promises made.

-       Professional-level design software proficiency (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), including Flash.
